Stephen B. Shinnick was born in London, England during the era of the WWII. In 1962 he went to work for the British Armed Forces; Royal Corps of Transport where he became involved in tank transporting and tank recovery.
In 1965 he went into business with a lifelong friend and started G & S Motors in the North London Trading area. This was when he purchased his first recovery truck an Ex Military Austin K9 fitted with a 3 Ton Harvey Frost Crane. In 1968 they moved their business from London to Prestwood in Buckinghamshire.
After making the move Steve changed the name of the company to Prestwood Motors. Out of this location they were operating as a Ford Motor Company Dealer along with the recovery department. They were soon contacted by Thames Valley Police Automobile Association, RAC and Green Flag motoring organizations.
In 1981 the company joined Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators (“AVRO”) as a member. In 1998 Steve was elected as the National President of the AVRO and well as being elected at the National Council Member for Region 8. Steve is currently serving on the Management Board and National Council for AVRO.
In 1995 Steve was elected a Fellow of The Institute of Motor Industry as well as a Fellow of the Motor Industry.
Steve is presently Director of Prestwood Motors Ltd., Director of SBS Holdings Ltd., Director of AVRO Ltd., Director of Nationwide Car & Commercial Assiantace Ltd. and a Director of United Recovery Ltd.
Steve’s goal is to continue to help unite the towing & recovery industry in the United Kingdom and across the world.
