Woodrow Herring

Woodrow W. Herring, Jr., or “Woody” started in towing in 1958, working in his father’s business which was founded in 1941. Woody’s children represent the third generation in the family owned towing business which has consistently provided superior service to Northern Virginia and nearby metropolitan Washington, D.C .. Willow Springs Towing & Recovery is the oldest towing firm in the area. After graduating from college in 1960, Woodrow Herring, Jr. became actively involved in the several family owned businesses. However, he soon began to focus on only the towing and recovery operation and eventually bought out his fathers’ share, thus becoming sole owner. Very early, he could clearly see the need to become a full time towing professional, offering “around the clock” emergency service, seven days a week.

Woody developed one of the first storage lots and trained his operators as towing and recovery experts, (not merely truck drivers) using tools, rigging and techniques which he developed. His company motto became “quality first,” thus establishing a high standard of service and professionalism for both his company and his competition. As one of the original seven founders, Woodrow Herring, Jr. was instrumental in forming the Virginia Association of Towing and Recovery Operations (VATRO).

He has served as a Board Member, Vice President and Regional President. Further, Woody has served on various committees, including one that developed an operator training program, in which he also participated as both teacher and lecturer throughout the state. In addition to local civic affairs, Woodrow Herring, Jr. is also an active member ofTRAA, Friends of Towing and VATRO.
