Louwrens J. Riekert

Louwrens J. Riekert was born in Pretoria, Gauteng on December 6, 1960.  He finished school in Pretoria in 1978.  We went to join the National Services for 2 years, thereafter he worked on an agricultural farm for another 2 years.  Louwrens married Daleen and they have two children-Iize – 19 years old – busy working on her LLB Degree and is part time at the business and Louwrens – 16 years old in Grade 10 and would like to join his dad in the business.
Louwrens started working at a towing company at the beginning of 1983.  The owner of that company moved and Louwrens bought the company in September 1984 and started with and old IH Trans Star with a Holmes 750, a Scania Truck with a Holmes 600, Isuzu car carriers and a Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck.
Louwrens became a member of the International Friends of Towing in 1997.
Louwrens has played a critical role in establishing standards for the recovery industry in South Africa.  He wrote operating procedures that were later copied and include legislation that govern the industry, especially the Road Traffic Act.  These amendments to the road traffic act greatly enhanced safe towing in South Africa.
Louwrens served as vice-chairman under Wim Van Wetten (Hall of Fame 1987) and was the Chairman of the South African Towing & Recovery Association for 5 years.  Under chairmanship of Louwrens various tow shows were arranged.  He personally arranged with the late Donnie Cruse in 1997 to come to South Africa to present a recovery school.
Louwrens also introduced Century Equipment into Southern Africa in 1993 and has since been awarded the distributorship for Miller Industries in South Africa.
Louwrens Riekert supports and sponsors many worthy causes and successfully applies his leadership skills to the benefit of the community.  In May this year, he was elected for his second term on the Pretoria North High School Governing body.  He also served in this capacity at the Danie Malan Primary School.
