James R. Poynter

James R. Poynter began his career in the towing industry in 1970 with Fender’s Wrecker Service.  Sadly enough Art Fender suddenly passed away in 1973 and Rodney found himself running Fender’s.
Rodney has helped develop training and educational programs for the towing industry since 1983.  He has assisted in training the City of Cincinnati towing operators.  By 1994 he was a Certified WreckMaster instructor for lockouts as well as a field instructor.  He is TRAA Level 1 and 2 certified and is a JJ Keller Certified Trainer.
Rodney developed and patented a buckle to shorten straps, and the Tailboard Transformer to change the direction of a line pull on a carrier.  This device became better known as the “Poynter Pucker”.  Then later he made yet another contribution to the towing industry with his ITI Carrier and Machinery Skates.
Rodney is a member of TRAA and TRAK where he has served as a co-chair of the education committee.  He has been a member of the ITRHFM since 1995.
Rodney has received many awards such as Towman 500, Crosby Training Award, The Order of the Towman, Ace Award, River Cities Peace Officers Award of Appreciation, along with many, many others.
Rodney continues to donate his time, knowledge and services to many civic endeavors.
