Bill Giorgis

Born in November 5, 1960 in Saginaw, Michigan, Bill has close personal ties to his mother, brother, sister, nephews and niece.

Bill grew up in a towing family. His father Mike started the company in 1956. It was Mike’s dream that his children would go to college and pursue their own dreams. But, fate stepped in and Bill’s plans were changed. Just as Bill graduated from Wayne State University in 1986 his father was diagnosed with cancer. Bill was going to help out until his father was better, then return to pursue a career in medicine. That was 16 years ago. Mike died in 1998. Bill has been running the business since the early 90’s.

Bill is a Life Scout. He was the senior class president. He was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and coached Special Olympics while in college. Bill was a lector and Eucharist Minister at his church, and he is a major supporter of the building fund and Millennium Park Campaign. Bill is a volunteer driver for the Saginaw County Sheriff Department. He teaches water safety and ice rescue to local fire fighters. Bill supports Hospice AIDS care programs throughout Michigan.

Bill has been active in the towing industry, serving 2 years as Secretary of the Michigan Towing Association, then serving 12 years as President. Bill has been on the Board of TRAA for 12 years, serving as Treasurer and currently Vice President. He testified before legislature and U.S. Department of Transportation on behalf of the industry. TRAA recently completed a law enforcement training video that Bill wrote and produced. He is currently Chairman of the TRAA Education Foundation. Bill has written articles and editorials for Tow Times Magazine.

In 1998, Bill was awarded the Every Day Hero A ward by the Red Cross for saving a young boy from drowning and in 2000 the American Towman Medal for risking his life to save a woman.

Bill believes that giving is the first and most important step toward building a strong and unified industry. His dream is for towers to control their own destiny then work together to better the industry for everyone involved.

Today, we acknowledge his generosity by inducting him into the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame.
