Keith R. Craven

Keith Craven first became associated with the towing industry through his appointment in January, 1972 as Division Manager of the Towing Operator’s Division of the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC), which is a trade association for the retail automotive industry in Victoria and is affiliated with the Motor Trades Association of Australia. Initially, Keith Craven served in an administrative capacity, but later undertook certain advocacy duties on behalf of the members. This involved appearing before the Victorian Transport Regulations Board and later, the Road Transport Licensing Tribunal. Keith worked tirelessly with the Towing Operators’ Division Executive Committee and successfully introduced the Victorian Government “Accident Allocation System” in September, 1983 which controls motor vehicle accident towing within metropolitan Melbourne. This system has been recognized to be far superior to the methods of equitably allocating accident tows and has since been duplicated in other metropolitan areas including Adelaide and Sydney. During his tenure of 1972 – 1983, Keith Craven assisted the Division and its members, various government departments, insurance interests and motorist associations in identifying problem areas and developing solutions. His greatest contribution to the towing and recovery industry was to unite its’ often divided members on behalf of the improvements implemented through his office. He was largely responsible for the organization of the Towing Operators Division 21st birthday dinner in July, 1980; 25th diamond anniversary in July, 1984 and the 30th anniversary dinner on August 23, 1989.
