Richard D. Bays, Jr.

Since purchasing his first tow truck in 1971, Rick has followed his passion for the towing industry.  He joined the California Tow Truck Association (CTTA) in 1979 and quickly began climbing the leadership ladder.  After serving various roles, he became President.  Rick has always been an advocate of education and training, and also became active in CTTA’s well-established training program.  After several years of serving as a light and heavy duty instructor, Rick accepted the position as lead heavy-duty instructor.
He has served his local community as a board member on the Watsonville American Little League.  Since 1992, he has worked with his local police department as CSO Volunteer and Special Projects Manager.  In 1999, the Santa Cruz County Visitor’s & Convention Bureau recognized Rick’s company, Speed of Light Towing, for outstanding service to the community (the first and only time a towing company has received this award).  He has also been involved in restoring and rebuilding the police department’s antique police cars, which are taken to shows and events each year.
